I chose an ordinary sketchbook (including the receipt) costing £4.00p to be left outside for period of time during winter. The experiment being to see how it would fare versus the elements.
Placed carefully to allow no external influences to affect it and not returning to see it until the alloted date to bring it inside I was surprised with some of the results.
It had not moved but was pitted and covered in dirt and stains. One page has accumulated five leaves and a conciderable amount of dirt with large areas of discolouration. More pages reveal brownish smudges and denting in the paper and some pages only have been affected at the edges. The cover had also seperated from itself and was revealed to be three ply whilst the cloth binding has frayed somewhat and come away in places. The whole book has warped conciderably.
The project goes along with my fascination with nature and it's capacity for creation as well as destruction.
